Select Training provides management consultancy and training services across the public, private, voluntary / community sectors. Our business covers everything from healthcare, education management, central and local government, voluntary and community organisations. Examples of the some of the work undertaken include:

We have completed many business plans for organisations and businesses (funded by Business Link, NLTEC, the Capacity Building Programme and, as part of the Community Business Development, funded by ERDF). Some examples include:   

 

» First Impressions (as part of the Investors in People Award), Smoothtrax.com, EverMax Ltd.

 

» community organisations such as Kurdish Advice Centre, JAMAIT-AL-NISSA, Enfield Crossroads,The Lotus Trust, Turkish Youth Association

 

» 25 voluntary organisations in the North London area

 

Capacity Building Services

 

We have implemented various Capacity Building Programmes in the London region, including:

 

» North London Capacity Building. Advice clinics, training seminars /outreach consultancies made available to 100 community/ voluntary organisations (funded by NLTEC, Upper Lee Valley SRB Partnership)

 

» Capacity Building services delivered to 40 Refugee Community Organisations in the East London area (funded by the Evelyn Oldfield Unit; City Fringe SRB  Partnership /URBAN Partnership)

 

» Capacity Building services were delivered to 30 Refugee Community Organisations in the London area (funded by the Refugee Council)

 

» Capacity Building Training Manual for Voluntary Organisations, completed for the Department of Health

 

The Capacity Building Programmes concentrated on: meeting the needs of the client groups, sources of funding available, how to source public funding, bid preparation, organisational management, financial controls and management, preparing budgets and cashflows, project management, monitoring & evaluation, exit and aftercare, strategic planning, management committee training, roles and responsibilities of trustees/directors, volunteer training amongst other issues. Outputs included :  jobs safeguarded, jobs created, funding secured, business plans completed, trustees/directors trained, project systems adopted & revised etc.

 

 

Community Business Development

The aim of the project was to continue to provide a variety of specialised training and advice services to develop the infrastructure of voluntary and community organisations in the North London area, so that those organisations who had recently established a trading arm can develop their community businesses and,others can attain the status of sustainable small community businesses. This project was funded by North London TEC, European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) &, Tottenham Task Force. The outputs included business plans completed, advice clinics, training seminars and outreach consultancies delivered, community businesses created, jobs safeguarded, jobs created, Small & Medium sized enterprises assisted/advised

Health & Social Care Interpreting Training Programme

We have delivered the Health & Social Care Interpreting Training Programme (OCNLR - 12 credits, Level 2/3) across the Pan London region.

The Programme has enabled unemployed people from linguistic/refugee communities to gain employment within the Health Sector, as professional Health Interpreters. The programme has been supported by various SRB Partnerships (such as Action Acton SRB, City Fringe SRB, Haggerston Partnership,  Heart of Hackney Partnership, Refugee Training Partnership, Upper Lee Valley Partnership, URBAN Partnership, World Class SRB) and Learning & Skills Councils (such as London North LSC, London Central LSC). Outputs include: people into employment, accreditation (level 2/3) gained, people becoming self employed & entering further education.

The programme has also created the Action For Care Consortium (which consists of Health Sector employers such as Barnet Primary Care Trust, Camden Primary Care Trust, Haringey Primary Care Trust, Barnet & Chase Farm NHS Trust & Select Training Partnership). The Consortium members work together to oversee the implementation of the Health & Social Care Interpreting Training Programme and achievement of targeted outputs.

Management Consultancy

We have delivered a variety of services as part of consultancy support to organisations and businesses:

 

» management strategies for organisations within the public, private and voluntary/community sectors (including The Refugee Council, The Evelyn Oldfield Unit, SANGAM Asian Women’s Project, Smoothtrax.com, Jazz FM, Westminster Refugee Consortium, Enfield Crossroads, ISKCON - Bhaktivendanta Manor, The Lotus Trust, JAMAIT-AL-NISSA amongst others)

 

» management strategy and strategic direction for the establishment of a Voluntary Aided Hindu Primary School in the Harrow area, for I - Foundation

 

» management and implementation of Training, Employment and Enterprise initiatives such as ESF Objective 3; ESF Objective 2; ESF Transnational projects in the North London area

 

» preparation of funding applications (ESF Objective 3; Local Authority funding; Learning & Skills Council Funding; ESF Transnational – Big Lottery Fund, ERDF; Department of Health &Trust and Charities funding). Examples of the funding secured include, sourcing £500,000 (ESF Objective 3 ) for the Refugee Training Partnership. A total of £150,000 was secured for Hindu Aid, from The Department for International Development (DFID). From the National Lottery, we secured £185,000 for JAMAIT-AL-NISSA. We also assisted North Paddington SRB Partnership to secure £180,000 (Local Inititative Fund) funding from London Central LSC.  

 

» financial management and planning; project appraisal and implementation and organisational change management support to refugee community organisations, voluntary organisations, small businesses, self help groups and faith organisations

 

Project Management

Select Training’s specialist project management services embrace every phase of project delivery, implementation and evaluation. Our services provide innovative management techniques to ensure we give our customers all the support they need through the whole life cycle of their projects, from inception to post-completion aftercare, to enable organisations to achieve continuous improvement. Programme management encompasses all aspects of management and co-ordination through the entire development process, from studies, planning and design to implementation, start-up and operational support. We have project managed a variety of ESF Objective 3 funded vocational training programmes in the North London area.

Research

We have undertaken a variety of research projects on behalf of funding bodies, including:

» Identifying the economic needs of refugees in the West & Central London area

» ESOL review within the Hackney area

» Refugee Strategy for Southall Regeneration Partnership
